Since it is hard to get out and ride with friends these days, I am going through my backlog of content to try and bring as much to you as I can during the COVID-19 pandemic. If you want your bike to be featured, send me an Instagram message and we’ll make it work.
Adam’s Sampson has been built up so many ways it is hard to keep track.
I first saw it in this iteration, with a big ole’ chainring, mismatched high end wheels, a microshift 9 speed drivetrain, flat bars and basket. I can personally attest to it looking like a road bike as well, check here for a few glimpses of that. I didn’t know much about it though, so I asked the owner for some details on this weird and fun bike.
Details on this thing: it is a mid-2000s Sampson Diablo that was used at one point as a tri race frame (hence the areo tubes). Adam got it on eBay from Sampson directly for around $100 and it has been everything from a crit racer to a basket bike.
“The basket bike happened after I kinda quit road biking in favour of mtb after an acquaintance of mine got in a bad crash,” he said. “I bought the microshift and the Uber Eats machine was born.”
It is currently a road bike again, and Adam’s partner uses it more than he does since he has a new CAAD13 to play with. It has a Mavic Cosmic front wheel now, and super narrow 38 cm bars.
Even though he is on to bigger and better things with the new Cannondale, he says he will likely never get rid of this frame.
