My mom texted me the other day, saying “guess what we got?”
Then she wouldn’t tell me! I went through every possibility from a new car to chickens to supersoakers, and she didn’t tell me. Finally I got it out of her. They (mom and my step dad) got new E-bikes!
As anyone is on new bike day™️, they were stoked. Rightfully so, these things are sick.
They are Giant/Liv bikes, the Talon/Tempt line. 29er wheels, Microshift Advent groupset, hydraulic discs (I forgot to check what kind) and the most important part of all, Giant’s Energypak e-stuff.
I’ve been on the fence about e-bikes for the past few years. If there’s an opinion about them, I’ve probably had it at one point. But now that I’m a bit more sensible I’m coming to the conclusion that for a way to stop people from driving cars all the goddamn time, they are a great idea.
I went on a few rides with my mom before this, and not for lack of trying she was a lot slower than I am. The nice thing about these is that they can help people ride up to 30 kmh (I tried to max it out in a sprint, so I know for sure it’s 30 kmh). I don’t typically sit at 30 kmh when I’m on a ride, so these are a way for my family members to keep up on my ~20 some odd kmh average speed rides. I’m down.
These would be great to reduce the amount of car trips they take too. Now I’m not sure how often they’ll opt for the bikes versus their car, they do live 20 km out of town, but even if it’s a few rides then it’s a good thing.
So here are some beauty shots of their new bikes before they get all muddy :) Sorry, Wilma the wolfhound got in the way.
