The story of this bike starts back on Salt Spring Island.
I saw the abandoned frame sitting on the side of the road in the middle of Ganges. For days I would drive by to and from work, telling myself that if it was still sitting there the next time I saw it I would just grab it. Finally, my desire for the frame was greater than my anxiety, and I walked out of my car and grabbed it.
Then it sat in my shed.
Then I moved, and brought it with me.
Then I moved again, still bringing it with me.
By this point, my wife was tired of me lugging most of a frame around. I started to build it up.
I’ve wanted to build an x-bike with swept-back bars for a few years now, and this frame was perfect for it. However, I’m not a huge fan of the over-exaggerated sweep on a lot of x-bike builds. I got these gentle swoop bars, rebuilt some parts-bin components and put it all together.
I have to say, it is one of the funnest bikes I’ve ridden. The swoopy bars give it a nice cruisy vibe, but the burly tires make it able to go almost anywhere on the Island. If I didn’t have something that fit in this category already… and if it fit me just a bit better… I probably wouldn’t be selling it.
That being said, I am selling it. I’m asking $650 for it, but willing to entertain offers.
It has been re-built from the ground up, with new grease in all the bearings, and everything ever replaced on it.
Send me a message (link below) if you’re interested in this bike. It’d be great for riding to farmer’s markets, swimming holes, old-growth protests, school or work and the grocery store.
