This year the poker rally is back!

We’re going to be raising money to go towards the Puntledge Forest. Over the past two years, the Puntledge trails were the best part of the ride. Everyone enjoys the time we spend in the Puntledge, so when I found out that the Comox Valley Land Trust are raising money to purchase the trees to protect them from logging I thought it was a perfect way for us to help out. They want to raise $50k, which we’ll get nowhere near, but every dollar counts. I like these trees, and would like them to not be cut down.

As for prizes, the first sponsor to come through was Honeybabe Herbs, a locally-based herbalist who makes amazing teas and tinctures. She’ll put together a great little prize pack for us, and you should go check out her website in the mean time (full disclosure, she’s also my wife! Hi Kristen!). Even if she wasn’t my wife, I’d buy her tea, it’s really quite good.

The second sponsor is Wild + United Athletics, a gym here in Courtenay. They’ve given us a gift certificate for a 10 session pass for the gym, valued at $195. I kinda want to win this one myself.

There’s also a third sponsor in the works, I’m not 100% on the details for that one yet, but I’m pretty stoked about it. Check back for more info there.

Poker Rally

Okay so how does a poker rally work?

Veteran ramblers will remember, but basically for a suggested donation of $5 per hand you get to play. We will stop five times on the ride, and during that stop you come to me (Marc!) and take a card (or more if you have more than one hand). At the end of the ride, the best hand wins. This time, everyone is responsible for their own hand, so you bring the cards with you on the ride. Try not to lose them!

Since there is more than one prize, there will be more than one winning hand. I’m not sure what those other winning hands will be, because heck, I could get even more sponsors by the time the ride comes around. I’ll also do a worst hand prize for whoever gets a bunch of crappy cards, and a hard luck prize for whoever gets the most mechanical issues on the ride.

if that’s not a good reason to come for a bike ride in September (two months left!!!) I don’t know what is.

So sign up, tell your friends and come out for a good time!
