Eric came up to the Comox Valley this weekend for what I told him would be a 60-80 km gravel ride with a big climb. By the time we finished, we were pushing 95 km. But more on that later.

He also let me take photos of his bike. It’s a Rodeo Labs Flaanimal 5.0, a carbon/steel combo gravel bike that he has built up with a mix of Enve, Hed, Easton and Thomson bits.

The Sram Rival drivetrain came off of his BMC, which he has converted to a road bike. Everything else was gathered over time from online classifieds sites and parts bins. For a custom specc’d bike this thing turned out amazing! He also got to choose the colour scheme. He went with the gold because it matched tan-wall tires and he even made his own bike bag kit to match.

It treated him well on our 1,111 metres of climbing, and was able to handle more singletrack than my 26” bike running 2.1 tires.

More on that ride coming soon. In the mean time, Eric’s bike is pretty damn cool.
