After their plans changed due to the wildfires across B.C., Adam and Emma had to find something else to do for their vacation. They decided to ride up the island from Victoria to the Comox ferry, then head back down the Sunshine Coast.
Adam texted me and asked if I knew of anywhere to tent for the night near the ferry terminal, and it turns out my backyard was perfect.
The two rolled in close to sunset on the third day of their tour, after logging 145 km, then 63.96 km, then 131.46 km. They were dusty, thirsty and hungry. In exchange for taking pics of their bikes, we made them pasta and gave them as much water as our well could handle.
Emma’s bike is a Soma Wolverine with a few custom stickers. A few details I liked were the ACAB sticker, the friendly stem bag and the Nalgene bottle cage. She made the trip on flat pedals and Converse, which I think had to be replaced at their next stop in Powell River. Check out photos above!
Adam has an unmarked carbon monstercross-looking thing that I’m not sure how to describe. He said it’s called a Carbonada — which is a “frame factory no name sort of deal.” He made the whole trip on road pedals so he could “get that power meter data.” Despite a questionable pedal choice, the bike looks ready to handle any Vancouver Island gravel road.
Day 4 was another 100+ km day, followed by 111 on Day 5. I hear Adam also went on another long tour the day after this, damn bud.
These photos taken on Coast Salish, K’ómoks, We Wai Kum, We Wai Kai, Tla’amin/Sliammon and Homalco lands. We want to respectfully acknowledge these Indigenous peoples and their historical and unceded lands.
