I was so greasy, worrying about getting it on the floor of the gym. The bike I was working on hadn’t been cleaned in a while, but that’s the thing about a Repair Cafe. What you get in is what you get in.

This was my second time volunteering for the Repair Cafe. It’s a program put on by the Lake Trail Community Education Society and Comox Strathcona Waste Management. The idea is to keep things out of the landfill, but it does so much more than that too.

This year, there was a free clothing table, some tinker spaces, clothing repair, appliances and, of course, bikes. But what I like most about the Repair Cafe is that it repairs the cracks in our community. It’s neat to see people you may pass by and learn that they can fix that broken radio.

I also got a few cool new endeavours that may or may not be taking off soon. All I’ll say for now is that my dream of opening a Bike Co-op in Courtenay may be closer to being realized than I thought.

Anyway, check out the video below. It was a good time and I’ll be at the next one in the spring, so bring your bike!
