I had my eye on the Answer Big Jon glove since I saw them in Bike Magazine before Christmas. I figured that they were just my style... simple, bare-bones and utilitarian and tough as nails. I ended up getting a pair for Christmas and I impatiently waited until the snow melted and I could try them out. Now that I've had them on for a few months, I'm ready to give my two cents on them.
The first thing that I noticed about the gloves was how simple they were. There is basically nothing there. The gloves are made of leather and cotton. That's it. Answer did not go too far from their inspiration (work gloves) and it shows. This glove is designed for trail riding and trail building. It is made to be able to pack a punch both behind the bars and behind a shovel. They didn't even include a wrist strap, just a plain, ordinary glove.
As I wore them in, I noticed more features that I would have missed otherwise. The touchscreen fingertips are very handy for taking a photo or starting a Strava run on my phone, the room for movement in the fingers is very nice and allows my fingers to better wrap around the bars. Also, they wore in quite well. The glove started to fit... well, like a glove. It is as at home wielding a shovel or pick as a handlebar.
Priced at around 30 bucks, it isn't too hard on the wallet either.
